Elsevier launches ClinicalKey Nursing AI to support evidence-based nursing practice -

Elsevier has announced the global launch of ClinicalKey Nursing AI, a clinical AI solution designed specifically for nurses. The tool aims to provide fast, traceable answers to clinical questions at the point of care while supporting professional development across nursing careers.

The company noted that while healthcare systems have increasingly adopted AI, most tools have been developed for physicians and do not align with nursing workflows. According to Elsevier’s Clinician of the Future 2026: Nurses Edition report, only 41% of nurses currently use AI compared to 57% of doctors, with many nurses relying on generic tools that are less reliable and not tailored to their daily practice.

ClinicalKey Nursing AI allows nurses to ask clinical questions in natural language and receive immediate support for tasks such as procedures, medications, and discharge planning. The platform is grounded in Elsevier’s evidence-based content, including nursing journals, guidelines, and clinical skills resources, and is used by more than 2,800 hospitals worldwide.

The tool is designed to strengthen clinical judgment at the bedside by providing clear citations and verified information, enabling nurses to spend less time searching and more time delivering care. Nursing leaders emphasized the importance of AI solutions tailored to nursing workflows.

Pilot studies indicated that over 90% of participating nurses felt more confident in clinical decision-making when using ClinicalKey Nursing AI, with three-quarters reporting time savings during their shifts. Dustin Bass, President of the Emergency Nurses Association, stated that the platform extends ongoing efforts to provide evidence-based education and resources to emergency nurses, helping them feel more prepared in patient care.

ClinicalKey Nursing AI offers access to expanded clinical content, including full-text journals such as the Journal of Emergency Nursing, AACN Advanced Critical Care, and the American Journal of Infection Control. It also integrates Elsevier’s Clinical Skills resources across acute care, critical care, oncology, mental health, and emergency nursing, as well as leading practice books such as ENA’s Emergency Nursing Core Curriculum and AACN’s Procedure Manual for Progressive and Critical Care.

Elsevier plans to roll out access to ClinicalKey Nursing AI to its customers throughout the year.
