Germfree Laboratories, LLC has announced the certified integration of its Smarthood™ sterile compounding hood with Wolters Kluwer Health’s Simplifi+® IV Workflow Management, Assure‑Trak®, and Simplifi 797® solutions. The integration provides full hardware and software compatibility for volumetric and gravimetric workflows, enabling pharmacy teams to complete required steps inside the sterile field and reduce inefficiencies and contamination risks.
The adoption of IV workflow automation has been critical for improving safety in hospital pharmacies. Germfree’s Smarthood integrates essential hardware such as cameras, scales, and barcode scanners directly into the hood. Paired with Wolters Kluwer’s Simplifi+ software, the system standardizes operations, automates compliance, and supports continuous audit readiness while eliminating manual workflows.
The integration also introduces video documentation capabilities. Smarthood’s built‑in field‑of‑view camera, combined with Simplifi+ IV Workflow, records video during preparation and associates it with individual preparation records, offering greater visibility and confidence in compounding processes. Baker highlighted that this level of traceability provides pharmacy teams with new assurance, particularly for those expanding or upgrading workflow automation.
Additional features include precise dosing support for pediatric and neonatal preparations, vibration dampening for consistent gravimetric measurement at smaller volumes, and durable construction for reliable performance in demanding pharmacy environments.
The certified integration of Germfree’s Smarthood with Wolters Kluwer’s Simplifi+ IV Workflow and Simplifi 797 is now available.
