The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) has entered into a publishing partnership with Oxford University Press (OUP) for the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG), effective January 1, 2027.
Under the agreement, OUP will provide publishing, production, technology, and distribution services for the journal portfolio, while AANS will retain strategic oversight. Editorial leadership, including the journals' editors-in-chief and editorial boards, will continue to independently manage scientific content and editorial decisions.
The partnership covers all six journals within the JNSPG portfolio:
• Journal of Neurosurgery
• Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine
• Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics
• Neurosurgical Focus
• Neurosurgical Focus: Video
• Journal of Neurosurgery: Case Lessons
The journals will continue under their current titles and editorial leadership, with existing peer-review processes remaining unchanged.
As part of the transition, the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group will adopt a fully digital publishing model beginning January 1, 2027. Print editions will conclude with the December 2026 issue, reflecting changing preferences in how researchers and clinicians access scientific literature.
AANS members will continue to receive electronic access to journal content as a membership benefit. The journals' digital archive will remain available, and the transition will not affect existing editorial standards or peer-review practices. Subscribers will work directly with OUP and will have access to additional publishing options, including Read and Publish agreements.
The partnership combines the Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group's established reputation in neurosurgical research publishing with Oxford University Press's publishing infrastructure, technology, and global distribution network. Both organizations aim to enhance the accessibility and visibility of neurosurgical research for clinicians, researchers, and other audiences worldwide.
