Suki integrates Wolters Kluwer’s UpToDate Expert AI into clinical workflow -

Suki has announced the availability of Ask across Epic, Oracle Health, athenahealth, and MEDITECH, integrating patient-specific information and clinical guidance from Wolters Kluwer’s UpToDate Expert AI into the Suki for Clinicians application.

Ask allows clinicians to use spoken natural-language or typed questions to retrieve patient information, including medications, allergies, vital signs, laboratory results, and chronic conditions, without manually searching through electronic health records (EHRs).

The integration with the UpToDate Expert AI API provides access to evidence-based clinical reasoning within the Suki workflow. Clinicians with UpToDate access can ask complex clinical questions and receive responses based on UpToDate’s clinical content, which is developed and reviewed by more than 7,600 physicians, authors, editors, and peer reviewers. Responses include sources for the underlying evidence, medication and dosing considerations, and links to related content and drug monographs.

The UpToDate Expert AI API is designed to allow healthcare technology providers to incorporate source-grounded clinical information into EHRs, ambient documentation platforms, clinical agents, and conversational assistants. The API provides integration options for UpToDate users and includes source-connected outputs and controls designed for healthcare applications.

The integration is designed to reduce the need for clinicians to move between multiple systems while reviewing patient information and researching clinical questions. Ask can be used to retrieve information such as a patient's previous A1C result, current medications, documented allergies, and other patient-specific information. When a question requires broader clinical knowledge, the application can provide information generated through UpToDate Expert AI without requiring clinicians to leave the Suki interface.

Early evaluations found that clinicians preferred responses incorporating patient context from Suki 83% of the time compared with responses without patient context, with the difference reported as statistically significant (p<0.001). The preference was observed across queries involving clinical management, clinical safety, diagnosis, screening, and dosing.

The findings indicate that combining patient-specific context with evidence-based clinical information may improve the relevance of clinical decision-support responses. Suki said the Ask functionality forms part of its broader development of Ambient Clinical Intelligence for clinical reasoning, revenue cycle workflows, and operational tasks.

Ask is currently available through Epic, Oracle Health, athenahealth, and MEDITECH.
