Doximity and Wolters Kluwer Health have announced a partnership to make UpToDate’s evidence-based clinical content available through Doximity Ask, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered clinical decision support tool. The integration is intended to provide clinicians with access to expert-reviewed medical guidance alongside AI-generated answers within their existing workflows.
In the coming weeks, clinicians at health systems using both Doximity and UpToDate will be able to access answers informed by UpToDate’s 13,000 topics and best-practice guides alongside responses generated by Doximity Ask. UpToDate is a clinical decision support resource used by healthcare professionals to inform patient care decisions.
Medical research does not provide direct answers to every clinical question. According to research cited by the companies, nearly one in four medical questions cannot be answered by available research. In such situations, clinicians may rely on expert judgment and the practical experience of their peers. UpToDate draws on a network of 7,600 physician authors, editors, and peer reviewers who review clinical, drug, and patient-related content.
UpToDate incorporates current evidence, expert judgment, peer review, and editorial processes to maintain its clinical content as medical knowledge evolves. Through the integration, clinicians will be able to access cited information from UpToDate alongside Doximity Ask’s AI-generated answers when evaluating clinical questions.
Doximity reported that its platform serves more than 85% of U.S. physicians. Its Clinical AI Suite, which includes Doximity Ask, has been deployed across more than 165 health systems, including 10 of the 20 largest hospitals in the United States. The company's PeerCheck program also involves more than 12,000 cited physician experts who evaluate and help improve Doximity Ask's responses.
The partnership comes as healthcare organizations explore ways to incorporate AI into clinical workflows while maintaining access to reliable medical information. The integration of UpToDate content into Doximity Ask is intended to provide clinicians with additional evidence-based resources to support clinical decision-making.
