The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) have jointly released a new guide to support the development of effective academic–practice partnerships in nursing. The AACN/AONL Academic Practice Partnership Playbook: From Shared Vision to Action outlines structured approaches and real-world examples for establishing and formalizing academic–practice partnerships in nursing.
The Playbook is structured around AACN and AONL’s unified framework for integrating nursing education, which outlines five domains: transforming healthcare through human-centered care; shifting to competency-based nursing education; sustaining the supply of highly educated nurses; leading innovation; and advancing nursing science.
The practical resource guides readers through stages of partnership development, including goal alignment, formal agreement drafting, and outcome tracking. It also includes downloadable templates such as case studies, memoranda of understanding, financial pro formas, and role descriptions.
Developed by the AACN/AONL Academic-Practice Advisory Committee, the Playbook is supported by a free webinar featuring implementation strategies and case exemplars. Both organizations reaffirm their commitment to improving nursing education, leadership, and healthcare quality through sustained collaboration.
