The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has reported its strongest impact factor performance, as detailed in the latest Journal Citation Reports (JCR) from Clarivate. Over 75% of ACM’s indexed journals saw an increase in impact factors, with a growing number now ranked in the top quartile of their categories.
ACM Computing Surveys (CSUR) led the results with an impact factor of 28.0, securing the top spot in the Computer Science, Theory & Methods category for a second consecutive year. Communications of the ACM (CACM) followed with a 12.2 score, maintaining first place in Computer Science, Hardware & Architecture, while ranking third in Software Engineering and fifth in Theory & Methods.
Several other journals achieved new milestones. ACM Transactions on Graphics (TOG) posted a 9.5 impact factor, and ACM Transactions on Information Systems (TOIS) rose nearly 70% to 9.1. ACM Transactions on Computing for Healthcare (HEALTH) debuted in the rankings with a score of 8.0, earning first-quartile placements in its categories.
Additional gains were noted across interdisciplinary areas, including quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction. Journals such as ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction (TOCHI), ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology (TIST), ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM), ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications (TOMM), and ACM Transactions on Human-Robot Interaction (THRI) also recorded impact factors above 5.0, with many achieving their highest figures.
ACM attributed the gains to its continuing shift toward open access publishing. With a complete transition to open access scheduled for 2026, ACM leaders noted that increased citation and download rates reflect growing global engagement with its research content.
