ACS Publications and ORCID in deal to recognise ACS reviewers -

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced that reviewers of ACS journal articles can now claim credit for their efforts through ORCID. This new collaboration will provide acknowledgement for reviewers’ crucial contributions to the scholarly publication process.

Reviewers give their time and expertise to help authors improve their articles and to help an editor determine whether an article should be published. Up until now, they have often received only limited credit for this essential work, and it has rarely counted toward their research profiles. Through this partnership with ORCID, reviewers of ACS journals will be able to get credit when they complete a report, while maintaining strict confidentiality as to which article they’ve reviewed.

A more robust research record can bolster the credentials of young scientists and can provide a more accurate and transparent view into an established researcher’s contributions to their field. The ORCID system makes it easier for researchers to track their publications throughout their careers, and ACS is pleased to be expanding this tool to our reviewers as well.

ORCID’s vision is a world where all who participate in research and innovation, from imagining to building and managing, are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions across disciplines, and borders, and time. ORCID provides an identifier for individuals to use with their name as they engage in research and innovation activities. ORCID provides open tools that enable transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and affiliations. ORCID provides this service to help people find information and to simplify reporting and analysis.
