AEUP collaborates with ScienceOpen to create an online catalogue based on DOIs -

The Association of European University Presses (AEUP) has announced a new collaboration with ScienceOpen, a global discovery platform, to create an online catalogue based on Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for the benefit of its members.

The project aims to showcase the importance of DOIs for books in today's digital publishing environment and their value for citation tracking and alternative metrics. The online catalogue will provide automation technology and support for an attractive, up-to-date catalogue embedded within a global discovery environment of over 85 million records.

Stephanie Dawson, ScienceOpen CEO, expressed her excitement about the project, stating that it would promote best practices in metadata generation for optimal digital discovery. She further added that the project would help highlight the value of DOIs for books and their potential in citation tracking and alternative metrics.

The collaboration between AEUP and ScienceOpen is expected to increase the visibility of member presses and facilitate communication between members of the association and scholarly circles in Europe and beyond. ScienceOpen will provide cutting-edge publishing services to AEUP members and help them increase the digital reach of their publishing programs.

Margo Bargheer, Chair of AEUP, highlighted the significance of the project, stating that the collaboration would enable members to present the scientific books of their authors and editors within a powerful scientific network such as ScienceOpen. She further added that readers would be able to identify connections among topics, author networks, or cited work, irrespective of their presence in books, journals, articles, or other scientific content available at ScienceOpen.

AEUP members who are not yet depositing DOIs for books and chapters can use the free BookMetaHub metadata management services to create Crossref-ready XML files. Additionally, ScienceOpen can provide further support and paid services for customers who have specific needs or projects involving book metadata.

The collaboration between AEUP and ScienceOpen is expected to promote best practices in metadata generation and help increase the digital reach of scholarly publishing programs.
