ProQuest has announced the integration of its AI-powered tool, ProQuest Research Assistant, into ProQuest Central, one of the world's largest and most widely used research databases. This enhancement offers students and researchers across thousands of colleges and universities access to cutting-edge academic assistance, guiding them through the research process and helping boost productivity.
ProQuest Central, a cross-disciplinary resource from Clarivate, provides a vast collection of resources such as newspapers, magazines, dissertations, working papers, market reports, and full-text scholarly journals. By adding the ProQuest Research Assistant, ProQuest is now taking academic support to the next level with AI-powered suggestions and insights embedded directly into the research workflow.
ProQuest Research Assistant, which has been in beta since mid-2024 with the ProQuest One suite of products, offers support at critical points of the research process. Rather than providing simple, generative answers to research questions, the tool helps students and researchers identify next steps and deepens their understanding by offering document insights. This approach encourages critical thinking and a more thorough engagement with academic materials, all while maintaining traditional scholarly standards.
Key features of the ProQuest Research Assistant include:
• Quick Key Takeaways: For each full-text document, the Research Assistant presents a key takeaway to help users quickly determine its relevance and decide their next steps.
• Instant Concept Clarification: Important terms within the document are explained with instant access to relevant definitions, allowing for deeper exploration of key concepts.
• Tailored Recommendations: AI-powered recommendations suggest related research topics and provide Boolean search prompts that can be activated in one click, helping users expand their research efficiently.
ProQuest Research Assistant has been developed in collaboration with librarians and users, ensuring it meets the needs of the academic community. The tool is continually evolving based on user feedback, with insights often drawn from classroom experiences, enabling educators and librarians to keep up with the fast-paced technological landscape.
Understanding and analyzing academic documents, such as scholarly journal articles, can be a significant challenge for undergraduate students. ProQuest Research Assistant supports this critical academic skill, offering personalized assistance to students as they work through documents and develop their research.
This move is part of Clarivate’s larger initiative to improve student outcomes and support diverse learning styles. With a growing suite of AI-powered academic tools, including the Web of Science Research Assistant, Primo Research Assistant, Ebook Central Research Assistant, and Alethea, Clarivate is dedicated to providing trusted resources and enhancing the educational experience for students and faculty alike.
A webinar about ProQuest Research Assistant will be held on March 6, 2025, to further demonstrate how the tool can enhance research workflows and academic success.
