The American Library Association (ALA) AI Policy Working Group has released a draft document, Guidance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries, for public comment. The document is intended to help library professionals navigate both the opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence presents for institutions, communities, and the profession.
The Working Group noted that its review of these issues has been guided by ALA’s Core Values. The draft will be considered at the 2026 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
All members are invited to review the draft and provide feedback by May 8, 2026. Responses submitted through the feedback form will be shared with the Working Group co‑chairs and may inform revisions prior to Council action. Additional details are available on the ALA website (login required).
