The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), US, and PSP Consulting are launching a new short course for journal editors in January 2009. This event is for editors from journals in all disciplines, and is based on a course for only medical editors that is now in its 12th year. It will take place January 29-30, in Oxford, UK.
The two day event has been launched in response to the need for journal editors to take on additional responsibilities and take an active role in developing their journals. Many editors are seen to edit a journal on a part-time basis, out of dedication to their discipline rather than as a career - and there is little support or training to help them. Responding to this need, the Editing Journals course has been established as one of very few that provides an opportunity to review the overall editorial operation and discuss how to develop and grow a journal.
Participation in this course allows Editors-in-chief, Editorial board members and Managing Editors to meet peers and discuss successful techniques for developing their journal - meeting the needs of their authors, readers, publishers and the public (industry, professions, research, etc.).
