The American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) have reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration by renewing a partnership agreement. The signing ceremony took place on June 17 at the 33rd CCS Congress held at the Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Center in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China.
Representatives from both societies, Zhigang Shuai, Vice President of CCS, and James Milne, President of ACS Publications, signed the agreement, solidifying their dedication to advancing the chemistry enterprise and addressing global challenges.
With a shared interest in finding solutions to humanity's most pressing issues, ACS and CCS have committed to working together, along with other societies, in the following key areas: Supporting the global research community: The societies will co-sponsor conferences and provide platforms for disseminating research findings, fostering collaboration among scientists worldwide; Promoting sustainable development and professional development: ACS and CCS will organize programs focused on sustainable practices, safety, innovation, and leadership to enhance professional development opportunities for chemists; Communicating the value of chemistry: The partnership will involve joint outreach activities to highlight the importance and impact of chemistry in various fields, promoting public engagement and appreciation for the discipline; and Fostering connections: Both societies will promote events and resources for their respective memberships, the broader scientific community, and the general public, facilitating networking and knowledge sharing.
All activities and events under this partnership will align with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals, emphasizing the role of chemistry in achieving global objectives.
This partnership agreement builds upon a series of previous agreements between ACS and CCS. The first agreement was signed on June 20, 2010, during the 27th CCS Congress, marking a decade-long commitment to fostering scientific collaboration and advancing the field of chemistry.
By renewing their partnership, ACS and CCS aim to strengthen international cooperation, exchange scientific knowledge, and drive innovation in chemistry, ultimately contributing to global progress and addressing the challenges faced by humanity.
