American Psychological Association to publish American Journal of Orthopsychiatry -

The American Psychological Association (APA) recently announced that it has become the publisher of the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry (AJOP). The mission of the journal is to clarify, challenge, or reshape the prevailing understanding of factors in the prevention and correction of injustice and in the sustainable development of a humane and just society. Its target audience includes psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, educators, and professionals in a broad range of allied disciplines.

The American Journal of Orthopsychiatry is the principal publication of the American Orthopsychiatric Association, and the journal reflects the Association's purpose to facilitate the generation and exchange of knowledge relevant to the development and implementation of policies and practices consistent with the promotion of mental health and social justice, including the protection of human rights.

First published in 1930, the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry publishes theoretical, policy–analytic, and empirical articles on topics related to the Association's historic values and themes. The Editors occasionally invite leading scholars to edit special sections or issues on topics of particular interest. Each issue includes a "magazine within a journal" called The Community. This feature is intended to generate exchange of ideas like those shared in online social networking communities.

The journal is edited by Dr. Oscar A. Barbarin of Tulane University, and Dr. Gary B. Melton of the University of Colorado Denver and University of the Free State.

Articles published in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry are also available through PsycARTICLES®, a full-text database in psychology and one of the most popular databases in all scholarly disciplines and fields. PsycARTICLES is available to a global audience of nearly 3,300 institutions and 60 million potential users.

Prospective contributors and subscribers are encouraged to visit the journal's homepage: http://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/ort.
