Amsterdam University Press (AUP) has acquired the ATF Press Publishing Group, an independent academic publisher based in Adelaide, Australia, effective July 1, 2026. The acquisition includes ATF Press’s full backlist of more than 400 titles published over the past 34 years. The integration process is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
ATF Press’s established series and collections will continue under the AUP imprint. The backlist, including English translations of significant theological works, will be preserved and made more widely accessible in both print and electronic formats through AUP’s global distribution network. Some titles will be available to international scholars for the first time.
Hilary Regan, who has served as Executive Officer and Publisher of ATF Press for 34 years, will remain involved as a Commissioning Editor, working alongside Jörg Persch, the new Managing Director of ATF.
Jan‑Peter Wissink, Director of AUP, described the acquisition as a milestone for the press, noting that ATF Press has a long history of internationalization and an extensive backlist in theology, history, and social ethics. He indicated that the acquisition would expand AUP’s list of theological and religious publications.
Professor Paul Babie, Chair of ATF Press (Australia) Ltd., stated that the agreement marks a new stage for ATF’s development within the international academic publishing market. He emphasized the press’s legacy as an independent publisher and its contribution to theology, noting that the acquisition ensures continuity for its backlist. He also expressed gratitude to board members, authors, editors, and volunteers who have contributed to ATF Press over the years.
A reception to mark the acquisition will be held in Adelaide on July 8, 2026, during the Society of Biblical Literature International Meeting. The event will celebrate ATF’s publishing history and highlight future opportunities under AUP.
The integration of ATF Press’s backlist is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. From December 1, 2026, all titles, including new commissions, will be available through the Amsterdam University Press website and distributed internationally by Taylor & Francis. Existing distribution agreements will remain in place until that date.
