Annual Reviews (AR), a nonprofit organization focused on synthesizing and integrating knowledge for the advancement of science and society, has announced the acquisition of Underline Science (Underline). The move expands AR’s ability to support scholarly societies and conference organizers worldwide.
The addition of Underline builds on AR’s longstanding service to scholarly communities. Alongside publishing 51 journals across the biomedical, life, physical, and social sciences, AR organizes meetings such as the Charleston Conference and Charleston Conference Asia, and reaches wider audiences through Knowable Magazine, Katina Magazine, and Knowledge Unlatched.
By combining conference expertise with its established engagement in research communities, AR aims to help organizations strengthen stakeholder connections, reach new audiences, and extend the impact of their meetings. The expanded services cover virtual, hybrid, and in‑person events, offering tools such as an event application, preservation of conference video materials, ticketing, attendee and speaker management, onsite audiovisual support, and global event coordination.
Richard Gallagher, President and Editor‑in‑Chief of Annual Reviews, explained that publishing review articles advances knowledge, but fostering conversations that move ideas forward is equally important. He noted that adding Underline’s event expertise enhances AR’s ability to help organizations create events that build relationships and extend their reach.
Jernej Masnec, CEO of Underline Science, stated that Underline was founded in 2019 to help scholarly organizations deliver impactful event experiences and expand their reach beyond traditional venues. He added that becoming part of Annual Reviews allows those capabilities to have greater impact through an organization with established ties to scholarly communities. Masnec confirmed that the Underline team and operations will remain in place to ensure continuity for clients.
