APS joins national collaboration to advance women’s health research -

The American Physiological Society (APS) has joined the Women’s Health Innovation Network, a new global initiative led by the Milken Institute to accelerate progress in women’s health research, infrastructure, and innovation. The initiative, chaired by former First Lady Jill Biden, EdD, brings together leading experts across academia, industry, advocacy, technology, and health systems to strengthen collaboration and investment in women’s health.

The network’s 13-member steering committee will guide strategic priorities and oversee activities aimed at building a stronger ecosystem for women’s health innovation. Among its core goals are establishing a digital platform to enable data sharing and institutional knowledge exchange, developing a pooled investment fund to support research and innovation, and launching proof-of-concept projects with measurable outcomes.

APS’s participation reflects its longstanding commitment to advancing physiological science in ways that address sex- and gender-specific health challenges. Through its established platforms, including 16 journals and a range of specialty scientific conferences, the Society provides an extensive foundation for disseminating research that supports women’s health. Its Women’s Health Research Initiative has also been instrumental in raising the visibility of research conducted by APS members on health disparities and biological differences.

By contributing scientific expertise and outreach capabilities, APS aims to strengthen research collaboration and promote policies that enhance women’s health outcomes globally. The Society’s involvement aligns with its broader mission to connect and empower a multidisciplinary community of more than 10,000 biomedical scientists and educators dedicated to improving human health through physiological research.

The Institute itself operates as a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank focused on measurable progress in financial, physical, mental, and environmental health.

The partnership highlights APS’s ongoing efforts to expand its role in advancing inclusive scientific discovery. By joining the Milken Institute’s initiative, the Society will help shape new funding mechanisms and frameworks that integrate physiological research into broader global strategies for women’s health.
