ASERL partners with De Gruyter to enhance access to university press collections -

The Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) has forged a groundbreaking partnership with De Gruyter, a renowned academic publisher, to provide enhanced access to scholarly eBook collections from leading university presses. This collaboration, facilitated through De Gruyter's University Press Library (UPL), promises to streamline acquisition processes and offer favorable licensing terms for ASERL member libraries.

The ASERL-De Gruyter agreement signifies a significant step towards enriching research and scholarship within the academic community. By aggregating eBook collections from prestigious university presses and publishing houses worldwide, the University Press Library (UPL) provides a comprehensive repository of scholarly content accessible through a user-friendly platform.

ASERL member libraries stand to benefit significantly from the agreement, with opportunities for advantageous pricing and additional discounts on past collections. Libraries opting to purchase content from the University Press Library collection by June 30, 2024, will receive further discounting for prior-year collections, along with incentives for multi-year commitments.

In alignment with ASERL's commitment to promoting equitable access to scholarly resources, the association is collaborating with De Gruyter to review standard licensing terms, with a focus on advancing the "ASERL Eleven" principles. These principles encompass key considerations such as perpetual access, interlibrary loan rights, and preservation assurances, ensuring that library acquisitions align with ASERL's values and priorities.

Further details about the partnership and associated offers are available exclusively to ASERL members through the association's website. Interested parties can access additional information via the ASERL member area at https://www.aserl.org/member-area/offers/ (password-protected).

The ASERL-De Gruyter partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing scholarly communication and supporting the vital role of university presses in disseminating academic knowledge. By leveraging the collective expertise and resources of both organizations, the partnership aims to empower academic libraries in their mission to serve the research and educational needs of their communities.
