ASM and Publons partner to bring recognition to peer reviewers -

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has announced a partnership with Publons to support scientists who agree to serve as reviewers of manuscripts submitted to the ASM Journals. Through the partnership, ASM reviewers are able to seamlessly keep a record of every review performed for ASM's journals, past and present. Reviewers can use these records as evidence of their previously hidden contributions to ASM's esteemed scholarly journals.

Publons works with peer reviewers, academic publishers, and research institutions to make peer review a rewarding activity. Established in 2013, the company collects information from peer reviewers and publishers to produce comprehensive reviewer profiles with publisher-verified peer review contributions that researchers can add to their resume without breaking reviewer anonymity. ASM began working with Publons in 2015 on a pilot program to offer ASM reviewers a streamlined approach to tracking and verifying all reviews contributed to 14 participating journals: Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology Reviews, Clinical and Vaccine Immunology, Eukaryotic Cell, Infection and Immunity, Journal of Bacteriology, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Journal of Virology, mBio, Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews, Molecular and Cellular Biology, mSphere, and mSystems.

Following the success of the partnership to date, ASM is looking at ways to continue leveraging the Publons platform to further enhance the reviewer experience. With more touch points and insights into reviewer and editor preferences, behaviour, and performance, ASM is looking forward to the many additional tools and features Publons has planned around reviewer discovery, training, and engagement.
