BHRUT adopts Wolters Kluwer’s UpToDate Enterprise Edition to support clinical decision-making -

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), an acute care provider serving East London and Essex, has implemented UpToDate® Enterprise Edition. The clinical decision support (CDS) system is intended to support healthcare administrators and clinicians in delivering consistent, high-quality care across the Trust, which is recognized as a center of excellence in neuroscience, stroke care, and maternity services.

The organization-wide implementation reflects the Trust’s approach to equipping its clinical workforce, including consultants, junior doctors, and medical students, with access to expert clinical guidance at the point of care.

The Trust has indicated that the system supports more consistent and appropriate clinical decision-making, helps reduce variation in care delivery, and contributes to improvements in patient experience. The Trust has also emphasized that the platform is based on peer-reviewed clinical expertise rather than untested artificial intelligence, and that the adoption represents an investment in improving quality and clinical outcomes across services.

UpToDate Enterprise Edition provides evidence-based clinical content across care teams to support informed decision-making at the point of care. Its AI-Enhanced Search allows clinicians to use natural language queries to retrieve relevant verbatim answers from UpToDate clinical content. The platform also includes an AI-powered analytics dashboard designed to provide insights from organizational usage data, supporting efficiency, population health management, and continuous medical education.

The implementation aligns with the Trust’s broader digital transformation strategy, which prioritizes patient care, staff wellbeing, and responsible use of artificial intelligence. Wolters Kluwer Health has outlined that the solution is designed to combine trusted clinical content with AI-powered tools to enhance decision-making, education, and operational efficiency across healthcare teams and hospital sites.

More than 100 independent studies have linked the use of UpToDate to improvements in hospital performance metrics, including reduced length of stay, fewer medical errors, and decreased unnecessary diagnostic testing.
