Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), a not-for-profit organisation providing copyright licensing solutions, has announced new participants in its Annual Copyright License for Academic Institutions. New members include Bloomberg LP, Forbes, Harper Collins, Hearst Business Media, Indiana University Press, The Gallup Organization and McKinsey & Company, among others.
The License allows librarians, researchers, faculty and staff to collaborate freely while respecting the intellectual property of others. It is available to public and private institutions within the US, as well as these institutions' international campuses. Some of the uses covered under the license include: using copyrighted content in print and electronic coursepacks, classroom handouts, e-reserve and course management systems, internal e-mail, intranet postings, distance learning and research collaboration.
The License, which provides print and electronic reuse rights for millions of titles (books, journals, newspapers, magazines, blogs and other content), has been adopted by over 100 campuses of all types and sizes, and has over 850 publishers and 100 authors participating. These include Elsevier, John Wiley & Sons, Princeton University Press, Dow Jones, the American Medical Association, etc. Through its outreach to publishers and authors, CCC adds about 25,000 new titles per month.
