Medical publisher BMJ Group, UK, has announced the acquisition of Informatica Systems Ltd, a UK-based software company which provides performance management systems for GPs. This acquisition complements the Group's existing portfolio of evidence-based products. Also, with this acquisition, the global publisher seeks to further strengthen its ability to support GPs as they adapt to changes in the NHS.
Founded by software engineer, Philip Brown, Informatica Systems has over a decade's experience of providing decision support tools for doctors. With an annual turnover approaching £3milllion, the company has grown from providing GPs with an automated appointments system, Front Desk, to developing a system (Contract +) which helps improve GPs performance against the NHS Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF).
The company has also developed Audit +, a centralised performance tracking system for GP practices within consortia and commissioning organisations. Audit+ has been deployed nationally in Wales since 2007 to support the Data Quality Service for the Primary Care Informatics Programme and has been used to provide daily monitoring of H1N1 outbreaks.
