BMJ Group and OpenAthens announce seamless federated access to BMJ Impact Analytics -

Leading global healthcare knowledge provider, BMJ Group, and federated single sign-on service experts, OpenAthens, have announced that OpenAthens' advanced authentication technology is now available on BMJ Impact Analytics. This integration marks a significant milestone in enhancing access to BMJ Group's comprehensive suite of healthcare products.

BMJ Impact Analytics now joins other BMJ Group products, such as BMJ Journals and BMJ Best Practice, in offering seamless access via OpenAthens. This advancement allows BMJ Group customers who support federated authentication to provide their users with a simplified and consistent access experience. Healthcare researchers worldwide can now navigate smoothly between BMJ Group products using a single login, and also access other subscribed medical resources that support standards-based authentication technology.

Launched in 2023, BMJ Impact Analytics is the premier tool globally for tracking and sharing the real-world impact of medical and health research. Developed in collaboration with the pioneering start-up, Overton, it has already received significant acclaim, winning the ALPSP 2023 Award for Innovation in Publishing and being a finalist in OpenAthens' 2024 UX Award.

The integration with OpenAthens offers numerous global benefits:

• Seamless Access Worldwide: Healthcare professionals can enjoy streamlined access to critical analytics and insights, enhancing their ability to improve healthcare outcomes.

• Security: With the rise in cyber-attacks in the education and research sector, protecting medical and healthcare resources is vital. OpenAthens collaborates with publishers and library organizations to identify and address any signs of misuse.

• Personalization: Users can benefit from personalization features such as saved searches and recommendations while maintaining their privacy.

• Enhanced Efficiency: Quick access to frequently updated evidence of real-world impact, including citations in local guidelines and tools, increases efficiency.

BMJ Impact Analytics is valued for its ability to support academic institutions and funders in discovering where research has been cited in clinical guidance and health policies worldwide. It uniquely provides citations in context and demonstrates the impact of research on patient care, including citations in BMJ Group's clinical decision support tool, BMJ Best Practice.

This collaboration underscores both companies' commitment to leveraging innovative solutions to support the healthcare community.
