Medical information provider BMJ Group, US, has announced the renewal of its long-standing partnership with HighWire Press, a hosting platform for scholarly publishers. According to BMJ representatives, the re-launch of the bmj.com site and the successful expansion and development of the company’s portfolio of specialty titles are, to a significant extent, due to its partnership with HighWire.
HighWire seeks to ensure that BMJ content, in conjunction with its e-publishing platform, extends its visibility and discoverability into the scholarly marketplace. HighWire’s Open Platform claims to be fulfilling its promise to future-proof its customers as it moves into the next generation of scholarly publishing.
The co-development project between BMJ Group and HighWire has reportedly been a model of the versatility of the HighWire Open Platform. With teams in both the UK and the US, BMJ manages the front end of its digital portal via HighWire’s Drupal modules, selecting what is displayed in real‐time from news to top articles.
