E-book technology firm ebrary, US, has announced that reseller BRA Virtual eContent Ltd. (BRAVeCONTENT) has licensed its technology and ASP services. Deploying ebrary's solutions, BRAVeCONTENT will aggregate e-books and other digital content from publishers in Sub-Saharan Africa and distribute them directly to libraries and other institutional markets worldwide. Additionally, BRAVeCONTENT has licensed a region-wide subscription to ebrary's Academic Complete e-book database and has exclusive rights to resell the collection of more than 38,000 multi-disciplinary titles in 43 Sub-Saharan African countries for one year.
The move is seen to be in response to a need for affordable digital content, both in English and local languages, in Sub-Saharan Africa. By licensing ebrary's technology and a region-wide subscription to Academic Complete, BRAVeCONTENT seeks to help fulfill this need.
ebrary seeks to help libraries, publishers and other organisations disseminate information to end users, while improving end user research and document interaction. In a related announcement, the company stated that Gibson Library Connections, which has licensed its e-publishing services and technology since 2005, has signed a major contract with the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN). The agreement is projected to provide millions of dollars in revenues to participating publishers over the three-year contract term.
