In a reportedly landmark deal that took three years to negotiate, all member institutions of the CAPES consortium in Brazil have subscribed to the journals Pediatrics and Chest. The consortium deal was brokered by ACCUCOMS.
CAPES, or Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, is an academic consortium of the Brazilian government with more than 150 members.
It is a public organisation attached to the Ministry of Education. All member institutions have online access to many STM publications via the portal www.periodicos.capes.gov.br.
Pediatrics is an official peer-reviewed journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. It seeks to publish original research, clinical observations and special feature articles in the field. Contributions pertinent to pediatrics are also included from related fields such as nutrition, surgery, dentistry, public health, child health services, human genetics, basic sciences, psychology, psychiatry, education, sociology and nursing.
Chest is the official publication of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). Each month, it features original research in the multidisciplinary specialties of chest medicine, such as pulmonology, critical care, sleep medicine, cardiorespiratory interactions, thoracic surgery, transplantation and airways disease. The journal also features recent advances in chest medicine, topics in practice management, pulmonary and critical care pearls, chest imaging and pathology for clinicians and contemporary reviews. Editorials, point/counterpoint debates and communications to the editor are said to explore controversial issues and encourage further discussion among physicians dealing with chest medicine.
