The Materials Research Society (MRS), US, and Cambridge University Press, UK, have announced a new publishing partnership to produce MRS' publications and to develop new journals, books and online products related to materials science and engineering. MRS' flagship publications include MRS Bulletin, Journal of Materials Research (JMR), MRS Online Proceedings Library (OPL) and Materials360.
MRS Bulletin, currently celebrating its 35th anniversary, had an impact factor of 5.29 for 2008. It is published monthly and features technical theme topics that seek to capture the interdisciplinary nature of materials science and innovation. JMR, celebrating its 25th year, is an archival journal devoted to original research encompassing all aspects of materials science. OPL offers unlimited full-text availability to over 65,000 papers from the MRS Symposium Proceedings Series – proceedings published from Volume 1 to the present, with more added daily. The collection also includes over 5,000 proceedings papers that were never published in print format and are available only online. Materials360, now in its 10th year, is a semi-monthly electronic newsletter encapsulating current happenings in materials research, providing insight into the world of materials.
Together, Cambridge and MRS expect to bring a comprehensive approach to developing the entire portfolio of MRS publications in terms of scope, reach and impact. The journals will be hosted on Cambridge's electronic platform, Cambridge Journals Online (http://journals.cambridge.org), and will reportedly include increased usability and functionality, and many new features to enhance and optimise article usage. MRS and Cambridge will also explore development of a wide range of new journals and books.
