CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society specializing in scientific knowledge management, has renewed and expanded its agreement with Coordenacao de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior (CAPES). The renewed five-year agreement broadens the reach of CAS solutions to over 400 academic and research institutions via the CAPES Portal de Periódicos, reinforcing a joint commitment to advancing scientific research and translating findings into meaningful societal outcomes.
For more than a decade, institutions affiliated with CAPES have used CAS SciFinder® to support science education and research. Under the new agreement, CAPES becomes the first consortium globally to offer the CAS BioFinder Discovery Platform™, a life sciences solution developed to assist in drug discovery through specialized content, predictive tools, and advanced visualizations. The partnership will nearly double the number of institutions with access to CAS solutions through CAPES' Portal de Periódicos.
The collaboration also continues to support the CAS Young Ambassadors Program, which facilitates peer-to-peer training among students in the use of CAS SciFinder and related resources. CAPES has played a role in sustaining this program and in advancing initiatives that encourage entrepreneurial skill development among students.
As CAPES marks 25 years of operation of the Portal de Periódicos in 2025, the agreement is positioned as part of a long-term strategy to equip Brazil’s academic sector with advanced research capabilities. CAPES has emphasized the role of the partnership in expanding availability of international scientific content while preparing future researchers to apply their findings in practical settings.
Academic response to the collaboration has emphasized the research benefits of concurrent access to CAS SciFinder and CAS BioFinder. According to university researchers working in medicinal chemistry and artificial intelligence, the combined tools are expected to enhance institutional research capacity and strengthen student engagement in innovation-driven fields.
