CAS and PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute announce collaboration to accelerate new materials discovery and innovation -

CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society specializing in scientific knowledge management, and PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the world’s third-largest oil company, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), have entered into a strategic collaboration to accelerate the research and discovery of new chemical materials. This partnership will leverage the CAS SciFinder Discovery Platform to enhance innovation in the field of advanced materials science.

Founded in 2021, PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute was established to address critical technological challenges in the development of advanced chemical materials. The Institute’s mission is to drive CNPC’s transformation from a traditional refinery and petrochemical product provider into a leader in advanced and sustainable material solutions. Research efforts at the Institute focus on high-performance engineering materials, polyolefins, elastomers, special catalysts, advanced membranes, fibers, and composites.

CAS, renowned for creating the world’s most authoritative and comprehensive curated scientific resource, the CAS Content Collection, provides content and knowledge management solutions that accelerate innovation. The CAS SciFinder Discovery Platform, known for its cutting-edge scientific technology, will empower the research scientists at PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute to access more relevant information at faster speeds. By facilitating full retrosynthetic analysis of both known and undisclosed substances, the platform will help optimize synthetic routes, identify critical scientific methods, and compare material properties more effectively.

This collaboration reflects PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute’s ambition to become a world-leading research hub with multi-capabilities. The Institute is dedicated to driving cutting-edge innovations, piloting industrial-scale technologies, and providing technical services, all while fostering academic and value chain collaborations. Together with CAS’s advanced discovery tools, this partnership is poised to push the boundaries of chemical material innovation, contributing to a more sustainable future.

Through this collaboration, both organizations aim to bolster scientific advancements in materials science, promoting the development of groundbreaking technologies and materials that will shape the future of industry and sustainability.
