CCC to host "Let Licensing Bloom: The Root of Responsible AI" panel at Frankfurt Book Fair -

CCC (Copyright Clearance Center), a global leader in copyright management and innovation, is set to host a pivotal discussion on responsible AI at the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair. The panel, titled “Let Licensing Bloom: The Root of Responsible AI,” will take place on October 17 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm CET in Frankfurt Studio Hall 4.0, Room Europa.

The session will focus on the role of licensing in the development of Large Language Models (LLMs) that power generative AI systems, exploring both the opportunities and challenges involved. Panelists include prominent figures from the publishing industry: Arend Kuester (CSIRO Publishing), Josh Jarrett (Wiley), Lui Simpson (Association of American Publishers), and Sarah Tegen (American Chemical Society). CCC President and CEO, Tracey Armstrong, will moderate the discussion.

As part of its broader participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair, CCC's Managing Director of Business Development and Government Relations, Roy Kaufman, will moderate a panel on AI policy during the STM Conference on October 15. The session, “Relevant [AI] Policy Around the Globe,” will take place at 10:40 am CET at the Westin Grand Frankfurt.

In line with its advocacy for responsible AI use, CCC recently introduced AI rights within its Annual Copyright License (ACL), providing businesses with legal rights to utilize copyrighted materials in AI systems. This collective licensing solution offers a unified set of AI rights from a broad spectrum of rightsholders, ensuring both compliance for businesses and fair compensation for creators.

Since 1978, CCC has been a key player in advancing copyright solutions, supporting content users and rightsholders through innovative licensing solutions and educational resources. For more information, visit CCC’s online hub, AI, Copyright & Licensing.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is a leading event for the global publishing industry, and CCC’s involvement underscores its commitment to responsible AI development and copyright advocacy.
