Cengage, an education and technology company, has announced an investment in Codevolve, a San Francisco-based technology company that delivers hands-on computer programming training. The investment will allow Cengage to expand its higher education computing courses and extend these offerings into the K-12 and continuing education markets.
Cengage Unlimited is the industry’s first all-access subscription for digital textbooks, access codes for online homework and study guides. Students pay one price to access more than 22,000 digital products across 70 disciplines and 675 courses. Beginning in January, all Cengage Unlimited subscribers will have access to new programming language courses, including Python, Java and C++.
According to Burning Glass, nearly 7 million job openings in 2015 were roles that value the ability to write code and build computer programs. Codevolve, which is currently integrated into MindTap, the Cengage flagship digital platform, teaches students to code through a flexible cloud-based integrated development environment (IDE) that provides students with the hands-on practice, feedback and troubleshooting support they need to become a developer.
