Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Centre for Scientific Research deepen collaboration and boost global sustainable development -

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) of France have announced plans to deepen their collaboration and jointly advance global sustainable development efforts. This decision follows a bilateral strategic dialogue meeting held last week in Beijing, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France.

During the meeting, scientists and experts from both institutions engaged in extensive discussions on major scientific research tasks aimed at 2030. The dialogue emphasized the importance of open-sharing cooperation mechanisms and promoting scientific excellence in large research infrastructures.

In a significant step forward, CAS and CNRS will establish four Sino-French international research networks. These networks will focus on joint research in particle physics, biodiversity conservation, climate change, and pure and applied mathematics. This initiative aims to leverage the strengths of both institutions to address critical global challenges.

The collaboration between CAS and CNRS dates back 46 years, with the signing of their first institutional S&T cooperation agreement. This agreement marked the beginning of a fruitful bilateral partnership and initiated an era of science and technology collaboration between China and the rest of the world.

Both CAS and CNRS have expressed their commitment to opening a new chapter in their bilateral institutional strategic cooperation, building on the solid foundation of their collaborative achievements over the past five decades. This renewed partnership aims to foster scientific innovation and contribute to sustainable development on a global scale.
