The Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra/Coimbra Hospital and University Centre (CHUC) in Portugal is the first hospital in southern Europe to implement PlumX, a research metrics tool from Plum™ Analytics, an EBSCO company. CHUC is using PlumX to measure and analyze the impact of its medical research, with emphasis on the online activity associated with articles published by its researchers. CHUC is confident that PlumX metrics will serve to enhance the hospital's credibility as a research institution on an international level.
Dr. Helena Donato, Documentation Service Director at CHUC, and her colleagues see great value in the ability of PlumX metrics to raise the international profile of CHUC and afford exposure to its research output quickly, due to the instantaneous feedback the metrics provide for research articles.
Plum Analytics was founded in 2012 with the vision of bringing modern ways of measuring research impact to individuals and organisations that use and analyse research. By carefully designing and deliberately collecting the big data created when individuals interact with research, Plum Analytics delivers products and services that provide contemporary information about research impact. Plum Analytics gathers metrics (often called altmetrics) about research from more than thirty sources including PLOS, PubMed and YouTube, and categorises them into Usage, Captures, Mentions, Social Media and Citations. Its product, PlumX, is an impact dashboard that provides information on how research output is being utilised, interacted with, and talked about around the world.
