Clarivate launches Generative AI-powered Primo Research Assistant -

Clarivate Plc, a global provider of transformative intelligence, has announced the launch of the Primo Research Assistant. Developed in collaboration with partners from the library community, this new generative AI-powered library discovery solution offers a seamless, intuitive experience for students and researchers. It enables users to obtain immediate answers to natural language queries while providing comprehensive visibility into sources and references.

The Primo Research Assistant, a component of the Primo Discovery solution, is built on a Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture. It leverages the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index (CDI), which contains over 5 billion records sourced from thousands of publishers, aggregators, and repositories.

Key features include:

· Semantic search and natural language queries: Users can interact with the system in everyday language, making the search process more intuitive and accessible.

· AI-powered answers with source references: The tool delivers immediate responses based on the top five abstracts, complete with links to the full text and a comprehensive list of results.

· Search suggestions: The assistant provides suggestions to help users broaden their research topics and explore deeper insights.

· Support for non-English queries: Users can submit queries and receive answers in multiple non-English languages, enhancing accessibility for a global audience.

Primo Research Assistant was developed in close collaboration with the library community to ensure it meets the needs of both librarians and end users. The beta program, which began in June 2024, involved 18 institutions across 10 countries, representing a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the global academic community.

In addition, Clarivate has announced that its Summon Research Assistant, first introduced in June 2024, will officially launch in Q1 2025.
