Academic publishing house De Gruyter and the Association of Canadian University Presses (ACUP-APUC) have announced a partnership to globally distribute scholarly eBooks. This collaboration marks a significant step in expanding the reach of Canadian university press content to a global audience through degruyter.com.
Under this new regional distribution model, all seventeen members of ACUP-APUC will make their complete book output available to a worldwide audience, comprising approximately 650 new titles each year. Additionally, a vast backlist and archive of over 12,000 academic eBooks will be accessible digitally to library patrons worldwide, consolidating this valuable content on a single digital platform. Libraries can now acquire DRM-free, multi-user digital access to this comprehensive collection of Canadian university press content.
This partnership reinforces De Gruyter's University Press Library (UPL) program, which serves as a community-led eBook distribution model. The UPL program enables libraries to gain unlimited-user access to the complete annual digital output from esteemed university presses worldwide, including those from the United States, Europe, and now Canada.
The Association of Canadian University Presses represents Canada's collective voice of French- and English-language scholarly publishing. Its members are dedicated to publishing scholarly titles primarily by Canadian researchers on topics and issues of global significance. ACUP-APUC's commitment to refining funding, dissemination, and distribution models aligns with their mission to bolster the viability of scholarly publishing amidst rapid technological and social changes.
De Gruyter, with over 270 years of experience in publishing exceptional research, provides comprehensive publishing services to academic institutions, societies, and publishers through its imprints Ubiquity and Sciendo, as well as its Publisher Partner Program. These services encompass digital eBook distribution and archive digitization, open access journal and book publishing for academic societies, repositories, and service infrastructures, empowering universities and libraries to operate their own presses.
With this momentous partnership, De Gruyter and ACUP-APUC are advancing scholarly communication and enriching the academic landscape by providing broader access to high-quality research and insights from Canadian university presses to readers worldwide.
