The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology (DOST-PCIEERD), has renewed its subscription for access to Elsevier’s peer-reviewed journals for researchers in the Philippines. This move is expected to further strengthen the country’s research and development capabilities.
Since October 1, 2020, researchers have been accessing ScienceDirect and Scopus, Elsevier’s premiere databases for journals and abstracts, to help them scope existing research work in their field of study around the world.
According to DOST-PCIEERD Executive Director, Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, the renewed partnership will help the scientific community’s quest for frontier areas in research and development.
The agreement will enable the three (3) sectoral planning councils, seven (7) Research and Development Institutes (RDI’s) and six (6) S&T service institutes of DOST to continue accessing ScienceDirect, Elsevier’s leading platform of peer-reviewed scholarly literature. Researcher will now gain access to 16 million publications from over 2,600 journals, published by Elsevier and its society partners.
Additionally, DOST’s subscription to Elsevier’s Scopus, the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature provides funders, researchers and research leaders in the Philippines an overview of the world’s research output with smart tools to support the tracking, analysis and visualization of the global research landscape.
Scopus uniquely combines a comprehensive, curated abstract and citation database with enriched data and linked scholarly content, with over 81m records across 25,000 journals, sourced from more than 5,000 publishers.
The researchers who have benefited from the subscription were from the 35 DOST-affiliated agencies, project leaders of DOST and its Councils’ funded researches, including higher education institutions (HEIs) in the regions that previously did not have access to these scientific journals/articles.
At present, there are 172 various HEIs and RDIs, together with DOST Regional Offices nationwide, utilizing the online journal articles acquired through Elsevier.
As a global leader in information and analytics, Elsevier helps researchers and healthcare professionals advance science and improve health outcomes for the benefit of society. The global publisher has built a wide-ranging portfolio including open access publishing options for authors and researchers across all subject areas.
