Wiley-VCH, the German subsidiary of John Wiley & Sons, US, and the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) have extended their cooperation on the publication of the DPG member magazine, Physik Journal. The new agreement builds on almost 40 years of collaboration and claims to secure the long-term future of the publication.
With a monthly circulation of over 60,000, Physik Journal claims to be the largest German-language physics magazine. The journal publishes a lively mixture of research and technical news from physics and related areas, developments in physics education, and information on the activities of the DPG and the physics community. It is also projected as a key medium for product information and recruitment advertising.
The new agreement addresses the importance of the trend from print to on-line editorial and advertising activities. It therefore secures significantly extended electronic services for DPG members, and the provision of all 57 volumes of the Physikalische Blätter (the magazine's name until 2001) in open access.
The extension of the agreement also guarantees the maintenance of the editorial quality of Physik Journal. The four members of the editorial team work at the publisher´s office in Weinheim which is an editorial base of a number of nationally and internationally renowned scientific journals.
