Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing, a division of EBSCO Industries, Inc., US, has announced a partnership with medical information and clinical content solutions provider Lexi-Comp, Inc., US. Under the deal, institutions subscribing to DynaMed or other EBSCO medical point-of-care resources will be able to seamlessly access real-time information from their Lexi-Comp databases. The arrangement allows hospitals and other medical institutions subscribing to DynaMed and Lexi-Comp to launch a search in DynaMed and link to their Lexi-Comp resources using the contextually relevant search information initiated in DynaMed. This new linking is seen to result in faster access to current and relevant clinical information and improved clinical decision making at the point-of-care.
Contextual real-time linking from DynaMed to resources, such as Lexi-Comp Online, allows linking to current and clinically-relevant drug information, including Lexi-Comp's drug reference, drug interaction and hospital formulary drug list tools, directly from DynaMed. Real-time, contextual linking ensures that users are accessing the best available information at the point-of-care. Since Lexi-Comp's team of pharmacists and physicians collect, validate and publish new content daily, the new partnership is seen to ensure end users have the essential information they need to make key medical decisions.
The enhanced EBSCO linking mechanism connects users to external services, defined by the customer, and intelligently maintains the information requested by the end user when generating new searches in Lexi-Comp Online or other external resources. Users can seamlessly and rapidly begin a search in DynaMed and continue to search in a Lexi-Comp resource without having to begin a new search. Users may also launch new searches in Lexi-Comp or access the main Lexi-Comp Online page from within DynaMed.
Enhancements to the DynaMed linking services allow hospitals to add up to 20 internal and external links to a new enhanced Search Other Service page. Subscribers may include links to their EMR systems, content portals and formularies, as well as internal protocol and guideline links.
Enhancing the integration between the Lexi-Comp drug reference and decision support tools with EBSCO Publishing's medical products via a formal partnership is seen as a valuable complement to EBSCO's line of point-of-care resources. The portfolio, in addition to DynaMed, includes Nursing Reference Center, Patient Education Reference Center and the newly-released Rehabilitation Reference Center.
