STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced the acquisition of NurseSquared, an electronic health record (EHR) training product that teaches students how to properly document using a simulated EHR. The training tool is projected to help Elsevier offer a more complete curriculum solution, including an EHR training tool, to academic customers. The acquisition is effective immediately. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
NurseSquared provides a simulated EHR and charting system with embedded documentation scenarios that can be used in the classroom, SIM (simulation) Lab, or real-world clinicals. Though NurseSquared closely resembles a real live EHR with features similar to hospital software, it is not an EHR. It is rather a product focused on teaching students appropriate documentation within an electronic health records system.
Key features include hospital-like electronic documentation; care plan construction; and competency assessment. In addition, a MyClinicals module allows students to input their own patient assignments from clinical rotations and then appropriately document and chart the findings from these assignments.
