STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced the acquisition of assets from Collexis Holdings, Inc., a US-based developer of semantic technology and knowledge discovery software, for an undisclosed amount. The combination of Elsevier's content and Collexis' semantic technology is projected to provide institutions and researchers with new ways to collaborate, showcase accomplishments and improve grant related workflow efficiencies.
SciVal, Elsevier's suite of research tools and integrated workflow solutions, seeks to help accelerate scientific discovery and improve the social and economic impact of research while improving research driven ROI. By combining Collexis' semantic technology with SciVal, Elsevier expects to offer a set of solutions that enable universities and government agencies to improve research outcomes.
Collexis' technology is claimed to lead the market in the academic segment. The main products include Expert Profiler, Reviewer Finder, Professional Social Networking and Knowledge Engine and Knowledge Services. Headquarted in Columbia, South Carolina, the company has operations in Cologne, Germany and Valparaiso, Chile.
