Elsevier and Ex Libris partner to present bX Recommendations in Scopus and Science Direct -

Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group, Israel, has announced an agreement with STM publisher Elsevier. Under the deal, a bX article recommender application will now be available to mutual customers for integration in the SciVerse interface. The application will enable Scopus and ScienceDirect users to see bX recommendations - suggestions for further reading, generated from researchers' usage data - along with articles that the users find in the Scopus and ScienceDirect databases.

Elsevier SciVerse Scopus claims to be the world's largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality Web sources. Scopus contains 45.5 million records, which are drawn from 5,000 publishers worldwide, and 70 percent of which include abstracts. Elsevier SciVerse ScienceDirect is a leading full-text scientific database offering more than 9.5 million journal articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 11,000 books.

Focused solely on the scholarly domain and used in over 1,000 academic institutions, bX is the first service to provide recommendations that are generated from researchers' usage data. The article recommendations are based on an analysis of hundreds of millions of usage logs contributed by worldwide users of the Ex Libris SFX OpenURL link resolver who are bX subscribers. A cloud-based service, bX can be integrated with SFX and the Primo discovery and delivery solution. The bX service can be integrated with other systems via an application programming interface (API).

Companies that are customers of both Ex Libris and Elsevier can obtain the bX application by contacting their regional Elsevier help desk.
