Elsevier and Russia’s Far Eastern Federal University announce collaboration -

STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced its collaboration with the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), the leading University of Russia's Far Eastern Consortium. The 5-year collaboration agreement includes access to ScienceDirect and Scopus for all Consortium members from January 2013 onwards.

Russia's Far Eastern Federal district has grown to become a key social and political focus for the Russian Government. Since the APEC Summit held in September of this year, a Ministry for Far Eastern Affairs has been founded and the region is designated to become Russia's growing economic, commercial and research hub in Asia Pacific.

As the largest university in the region, FEFU plays a key role in this development plan and has established the Far Eastern Consortium, a consortium of more than 50 regional universities and academic institutes. Together, these universities and institutes aim to increase research output for the region, strengthen local academic relations, and drive international collaboration within the scientific arena.

ScienceDirect is a premier full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and 11,000 books. The platform offers search and retrieval functionalities that enable users to work effectively in the knowledge discovery process. It carries an ongoing innovation aiming to revolutionise the traditional format of the academic paper, the interactive elements, enhanced online-readability, alerting services, and linking options to external datasets help researchers to build insights at the article level. ScienceDirect now has more than 16 million users, the wide reach makes it an ideal place for scientists to publish and disseminate their research findings.

Covering the world's research literature, Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. Featuring smart tools to track, analyse and visualise research, Scopus was designed and developed with input from over 500 users and librarians internationally. Its unique database contains abstracts and references from nearly 20,500 peer-reviewed journals from more than 5,000 publishers worldwide, ensuring broad interdisciplinary coverage.
