STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced the release of the Collected Works of H.S. Tsien (1938-1956) in partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press (SJTUP). Tsien, considered by many to be the greatest Chinese scientist of the past 60 years, began his research in aerodynamics while a student, researcher and academic in the US. SJTUP is the official publishing house of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of China’s leading universities and research institutions.
Dr. H. S. Tsien (also known as Dr. Qian Xuesen), is the celebrated leader of the research that produced China's first satellite and made pioneering contributions to many fields, including jet propulsion, engineering cybernetics, physical mechanics and engineering science. This volume collects the scientific works of Tsien and his co-authors, when aeronautic exploration moved from low speed to high speed regimes and astronautic technology took root. Dr. Tsien’s work has been lauded by many Chinese leaders, from Chairman Mao Zedong to President Jiang Zemin and President Hu Jintao.
The announcement was made during a ceremony at the London Book Fair. The event was hosted by Shizhong Fang, Director of Shanghai Press and Publication Administration. Y.S. (Youngsuk) Chi, Chairman of Elsevier’s Management Committee, spoke at the ceremony on behalf of Elsevier.
