Elsevier announces January 2009 launch of new medical journal -

STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has announced the January 2009 launch of a new medical journal - PM&R, The journal of injury, function and rehabilitation. Dr. Stuart M. Weinstein, Clinical Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, will serve as the Editor-in-Chief. He will be supported by an internationally renowned Editorial Board.

The 'Purple Journal' (as it will be colloquially branded) is designed to advance education and impact the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation through the timely delivery of clinically relevant and evidence-based research and review information. Coverage includes acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders and pain, neurologic conditions involving the central and peripheral nervous systems, rehabilitation of impairments associated with disabilities in adults and children, and neurophysiology and electrodiagnosis.

The various sections of PM&R highlight original research including clinical trials and outcomes studies, clinically relevant translational science, comprehensive and focused review articles, case presentations, point/counterpoint discussions and commentary, ethical legal topics, practice management updates, topical study guides, editorial and opinion pieces, clinical pearls, emerging issues and letters to the editor. Continuing Medical Education opportunities for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit are also offered.

The journal is projected to serve as a vehicle to enhance the dissemination of medical knowledge that will benefit people with acute and chronic impairments and disabilities. The contributing authors and readership of the journal embody the diversity of groups for whom this journal was developed. These include clinicians and clinical researchers in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, in other medical specialties (such as neurology, rheumatology, geriatrics and spinal surgery) and practitioners in related disciplines (such as physical and occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and clinical psychology).
