Elsevier expands LeapSpace with new AI tools for research workflows -

Elsevier has announced an expansion of LeapSpace, AI‑based research workspace, introducing new agentic capabilities designed to support a wider range of tasks across the research workflow. The update includes Writing Coach, Claim Radar, Compare Tables, Extended File Upload, and Reference Export, which became available starting today.

LeapSpace is built to accelerate discovery, strengthen evidence evaluation, and support critical thinking. It draws on more than 20 million peer‑reviewed articles and books from Elsevier, along with licensed content from over 1,000 publishing partners such as Emerald Publishing, IOP Publishing, NEJM Group, and Sage Publishing. In addition, it integrates more than 100 million scientific records from over 7,000 publishers indexed in Scopus. Outputs are traceable to peer‑reviewed sources, with features such as Trust Cards to help researchers assess evidence strength, while maintaining user control over all AI‑generated recommendations.

General AI tools can automate text generation and summarization, but LeapSpace is positioned to meet higher demands in research by emphasizing verifiable citations, transparent reasoning, safeguards for research integrity, and enterprise‑grade security. According to Elsevier, the platform has already been adopted by thousands of researchers worldwide, with reported time savings of up to 50 percent for many users. The company noted that writing support is the most requested area for AI assistance, particularly among students and early‑career researchers.

The new tools include:

Writing Coach: Provides a private, encrypted environment for drafting and refining manuscripts, highlighting logical connections, clarifying arguments, and surfacing gaps in evidence.

• Claim Radar: Evaluates how closely claims align with published literature, identifying corroboration, contradictions, or areas of limited consensus.

• Compare Tables: Allows researchers to define comparison dimensions and automatically extract evidence into customizable tables.

• Extended File Upload: Enables direct upload of Word documents, maintaining privacy and encryption.

• Reference Export: Provides direct citation export into documents, a feature requested by the user community.

Elsevier stated that LeapSpace continues to expand its trusted content base through collaborations with additional publishers. The company emphasized that researchers report stronger arguments and greater confidence when using the platform.

LeapSpace uses a multi‑model AI approach, selecting models based on task requirements. Elsevier highlighted that customer data remains private, encrypted, and is not used to train third‑party models. The platform is available globally for institutions, corporations, and individual academics and students.
