The editorial board of Elsevier journal Artificial Intelligence has announced that it will make up to $250,000 per annum available to support the promotion and dissemination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research.
Artificial Intelligence claims to be amongst the longest established and most respected journals in the field of AI research, having published many of the key papers in the field since it was founded in 1970. The operation of the editorial board, a division of the International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) organisation, is supported financially by Elsevier. The board is now seen to be in the position of being able to make available substantial funds to support the promotion and dissemination of AI research.
The funding is aimed at promoting and raising awareness of AI research and practice; encouraging the timely and widespread dissemination of AI research results, techniques and tools; promoting interaction and exchange of ideas between AI researchers, practitioners and students; and promoting the exploitation of AI research results, techniques and tools.
All proposals will be evaluated by the Artificial Intelligence sponsorship committee on the basis of: scientific quality of proposed activities, likely level of impact on the international AI community and cost effectiveness. All activities are funded on a not-for-private-profit basis.
The International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence is an international gathering of AI researchers and practitioners, held biennially in odd-numbered years since 1969. It is sponsored jointly by the IJCAI and the national AI societies of the host nations. IJCAI also acts as the official host for the editorial operations of the Artificial Intelligence journal.
