Academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing has received its best ever results in the data release of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) from Thomson Reuters for 2015, with three in every four journals seeing an increased Impact Factor.
Ninety percent of Emerald's indexed journals increased the number of citations they received from other JCR journals. Seventy two percent of journals saw an increase in their Impact Factor and six journals received Impact Factors above 2.000, which is double the number from the 2014 release.
Further analysis shows that the average change in citations received from other indexed journals was over 23%, while the average Impact Factor was up by 12.7%. Top performer was Internet Research, which received an Impact Factor of 3.017, almost doubling its score of 1.661 in 2014.
Emerald has a record number of titles indexed by Thomson Reuters with 64 titles, encompassing 61 journals and three book series. Three of the journals – International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship, English Teaching – Practice and Critique, and Journal of Korea Trade – are receiving Impact Factors for the first time as Emerald journals.
Results also showed significant long-term improvement in quality, with 74% of titles increasing their Five-Year Impact Factor, with an average change of over 21.7% - more than half of all titles indexed now have a Five-Year Impact Factor over 1.000.
These results follow further successes with Thomson Reuters indexation, as Emerald recently had its 100th journal accepted onto the Thomson Reuters Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). More than half of all Emerald's journals are now indexed by one of Thomson Reuters' indices.
