Environmental Health Perspectives joins ACS Publications portfolio -

The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced that Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) has joined the ACS Publications portfolio. EHP is a respected journal with a long-standing reputation for publishing leading research at the intersection of environment and human health.

Founded in 1972 by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Environmental Health Perspectives has grown into a leading journal publishing peer-reviewed research examining links between environmental factors and human health. In 2025, the NIH elected to donate the journal to a non-governmental publisher through the Federal Surplus Personal Property Donation Program, under which the American Chemical Society qualified as an eligible nonprofit.

The formal transfer of the journal to ACS was completed at the end of 2025. ACS Publications has stated that editorial independence will be maintained while ensuring continuity for authors, readers, and the broader scholarly community. Environmental Health Perspectives will continue to operate as a fully open access journal.

Manuscript submissions to the journal are expected to reopen, with publishing scheduled to resume in early 2026. Previously published content will be made available alongside existing ACS journal content in the coming months. Article publishing charges will be waived for all manuscripts submitted through the end of 2026.

ACS Publications has indicated that the transition is intended to minimize disruption while supporting the long-term sustainability of the journal within scholarly publishing. The journal will continue to serve the environmental health sciences community by disseminating high-quality research connecting environmental exposure and public health outcomes.

As a nonprofit scholarly society publisher, ACS has positioned the addition of Environmental Health Perspectives as part of a broader commitment to preserving trusted scholarly publications and supporting the global research ecosystem.
