The Digital Preservation Network (DPN), a membership organization that is sponsored by Internet2, has announced that its portfolio company Figshare is the first research data repository to join the DPN Federation.
DPN claims to be the only large-scale digital preservation service that is built to last beyond the lifespans of individuals, technological systems, and organisations. Just like insurance, the DPN service provides members of the academy and their successors with a guarantee that future access to their scholarly resources will be available in the event of any type of change in administrative or physical institutional environments.
Research data made public on Figshare will be deposited into DPN guaranteeing Figshare users long-term access to their scholarly resources which will be protected in the event of any type of change in administrative or physical institutional environments.
