Academic publisher Emerald Publishing has announced that its high quality business and management journals programme has been recognised by the UK's Chartered Association of Business Schools (Chartered ABS), with an additional 41 titles included in its latest Academic Journal Guide (AJG) - an impressive increase of 35%.
This increase accounted for nearly a quarter of all new journals added to the list in 2018. Emerald now has 150 journals included on the list, one of the primary sources for UK business academics for their research and publishing activities.
The Guide - which was last published in 2015, and has been updated this year ahead of a further review in 2021 - is based upon peer review, editorial and expert judgements following the evaluation of many hundreds of publications, and is informed by statistical information relating to citations of articles and journals. It is a highly used guide to the range, subject matter and relative quality of journals in which business and management academics publish their research, and has been adopted outside the UK across Europe, North America and Asia. As such, it continues to be an influential indicator for authors when deciding where to submit their research.
Emerald publishes around 200 journals in business, management and related areas. It has nine collections across these disciplines, with its core collections of Business, Management & Strategy and Marketing seeing an additional 13 and five journals added respectively. The more interdisciplinary nature of research in the AJG is reflected in the additions made to the Operations, Logistics & Quality collection (two titles) and Information & Knowledge Management collection (two titles).
The Association of Business Schools' Academic Journal Guide 2015 assessed the quality of 1,401 business and management publications worldwide, based on citation scores and the judgements of leading researchers. In 2018, the Guide assessed 1,582 (a 13% increase on 2015). It is designed to help academics to make decisions about where they should seek to have their work published and to help deans to evaluate performance.
